Smoke Alarms
Smoke Alarms...Its the Law!
Under the Ontario Fire Code, every homeowner in Ontario is required to have smoke alarms installed between sleeping and living areas on every floor and ensure they are in working order. In rental accomodation, the landlord must install, maintain and provide smoke alarm maintenance information to the tenant.
It is an offence to disable a smoke alarm!
The smoke alarm should be tested regularly. Remember to check batteries and vacum out dust. Batteries should be changed every spring and fall when you adjust your clocks for daylight savings time.
Smoke alarms should be replaced after 10 years or if they malfunction in any way.
